The programme builds upon the success of the previous Action for Archives pilot programmes. It deals with real service issues and aims to enable participants to achieve results for their service more effectively and quickly than might otherwise have been the case.

About the programme
The programme using a blended learning approach will provide each organisation with:
  • An initial audit of their strategic issue and their current preparedness to address it
  • A tailored workshop covering key principles and tools for strategic thinking, planning, advocacy and income generation (including fundraising)
  • Structured action learning in facilitated geographic groups in which they will work together to address their strategic issues, applying tools and techniques of strategic management
  • 1:1 coaching for each service to help them to deliver their plan
  • 1:1 specialist support on fundraising and / or other strategic issues, from a specialist consultant; or tailored workshops to provide this specialist input to more than one service at a time
  • Links with other archives and similar services which have addressed similar strategic issues, to provide informal mentoring
  • Access to a wide range of material, tools and weblinks to support the process through an interactive electronic learning environment

The programme will enable participants and their services to:

1) Explore their approach to strategy and planning
2) Develop and apply solutions to critical strategic problems they are facing, particularly around advocacy, income generation and fundraising
3) Learn from the way other services have addressed similar issues

Level of commitment
The programme consists of four days of dedicated time away from the workplace, together with consultant support and time pursuing work related action in real time at work. This work is spread over a four month period, which we believe to be manageable.
